Background of the Study
Palliative care is an essential component of cancer care that focuses on alleviating pain and improving the quality of life for patients with advanced cancer. Oncology nursing training is critical in equipping nurses with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide effective palliative care. This study will examine how specialized oncology nursing training impacts nurses' confidence in delivering palliative care at Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta.
Statement of the Problem
Nurses’ confidence in administering palliative care can significantly affect the quality of care provided to cancer patients. Lack of specialized training may lead to a reluctance to manage complex symptoms and provide adequate emotional support. This study seeks to evaluate how oncology nursing training influences the confidence of nurses in delivering palliative care.
Objectives of the Study
1. To evaluate the impact of oncology nursing training on nurses’ confidence in providing palliative care.
2. To assess how oncology nursing training influences nurses' competence in managing pain and other symptoms in terminally ill cancer patients.
3. To explore the effect of enhanced nursing confidence on patient care and satisfaction in palliative settings.
Research Questions
1. How does oncology nursing training affect nurses’ confidence in providing palliative care?
2. To what extent does oncology nursing training improve nurses’ competence in managing pain and symptoms in cancer patients?
3. How does increased confidence in palliative care impact patient outcomes and satisfaction?
Research Hypotheses
1. Oncology nursing training significantly enhances nurses’ confidence in providing palliative care.
2. Nurses who undergo oncology nursing training provide more effective palliative care, improving patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on oncology nurses at Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Limitations may include variability in training programs, differences in nurse experience, and challenges in measuring nurse confidence and patient outcomes.
